Rich Childers

Rich Childers was born and raised outside Detroit, and migrated to the West Coast in 1979 to launch his career as a commercial diver. Growing tired of inspecting oil pipelines off the coast of Santa Barbara, Rich left the commercial diving world to earn a degree in marine fisheries at Humboldt State University, and a Master’s degree from Oregon State University. Rich has been managing shellfish fisheries in Puget Sound since 1995 and served as the shellfish policy lead for WA Department of Fish and Wildlife from 2005-2016, joining the Northwest Straits Commission as director in January 2017.
