Lynne Wenberg
Skagit MRC
After retiring from the business world, Lynne Wenberg wanted to give back to her local environment. In 2020, (during COVID!), she graduated from Skagit MRC’s Salish Sea Stewards training, which opened her eyes to the many environmental volunteer opportunities with the Skagit MRC and other local organizations. Lynne was immediately drawn to the marine fieldwork and science projects, and despite her initial feelings of intimidation by her lack of a scientific background she soon discovered her love of hands-on work, “the muddier, sandier, wetter, more hands-on the better,” she said. Lynne gained experience and confidence through collaboration with like-minded, experienced volunteers.
Drawing on her project management skills, Lynne jumped at the chance to contribute to the various MRC initiatives, such as bull kelp kayak surveys and shoreline restoration. Currently, Lynne also leads the MRC’s Skagit Shoreline Needs Assessment, which will result in science-based analysis and project-based priority recommendations for protection and restoration of our marine habitats. She values the NW Straits Initiative as a grassroots effort to protect marine environments and aims to foster collaboration with other MRCs and would be interested in strengthening ties with Salish Sea neighbors in British Columbia.
A lifelong resident of Washington, Lynne enjoys boating, native plant gardening and cooking, especially when it includes local fish and seafood from the Salish Sea.
