The 2025–2030 NW Straits Commission's 2025–2030 Strategic Plan was developed through a phased, collaborative process led by Strategies NW. A strategic planning group comprised of Board Commissioners, Commission staff and MRC staff and members worked together to outline how the Commission can better adapt to the needs of the region.

Our Vision:

We are a resilient and thriving ecosystem where communities are valued as stewards of local marine resources for current and future generations.

Our Mission:

We protect and restore the marine waters, habitats and species of the Northwest Straits region by supporting Marine Resources Committees and advancing their community-driven priorities

We Value:

Community, Ingenuity, Collaboration, Conviction, Integrity, Environment

The plan outlines strategies to advance four overarching strategic goals:

  1. Foster a collaborative, supportive environment where Commission staff, MRC staff, members and volunteers, work together to advance our mission and achieve our goals.

  1. Amplify the visibility and positive impact of the Commission to conserve and restore marine ecosystems.

  1. The Commission supports MRC leadership in innovative approaches to advance their stewardship and advisory solutions.

  1. Secure long-term sustainable funding to support and enable the work of the Commission and MRCs.

The work of the NW Straits Commission, the Marine Resources Committees, and regional partners all contributes to a shared goal: restoring and protecting the marine waters of the Northwest Straits region. The Commission’s unique organizational structure continues to drive strong collective action, focusing on combined impact of this work is greater than the sum of its parts.
