Stormwater Antimicrobial Treatment Unit Installation and Monitoring Project Report

The goals of this project are: 1) to install a Storm water Antimicrobial Treatment System (SWAT) unit to treat storm water drainage for bacterial loading coming from the Bay View community, 2) to monitor influent and effluent water quality in terms of bacterial attenuation, and 3) to eventually improve water quality in South Padilla Bay such that swimming and recreational harvests of shellfish are once again deemed safe at Bay View State Park and surrounding areas.

Shellfish Sampling for Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning (PSP)

From July 1, 2010 through December 31, 2010, the Clallam MRC executed paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP)shellfish monitoring along the western Straits are of Clallam County. A lack of PSP present in areas sampled resulted in the opening of over 30 miles of beachfront previously closed for shellfish harvesting. This report provides a summary the PSP sampling efforts.

Aerial and video based Eelgrass Monitoring in Island County

This is a report presenting the findings of eelgrass bed coverage in select regions of Island County through both aerial and underwater videography in 2009. The targeted regions included Holmes Harbor, Penn Cove, and Cornet Bay. The aerial survey was conducted over the entire region, while the underwater videography was limited to ten sites.

Spartina Survey Removal and Final Report

In a joint effort to remove and combat the spread of the invasive coastal grass Spartina, Skagit MRC partnered with People for the Puget Sound (PPS) and the Swinomish Tribal Community to identify sites in need of removal of the plant. In addition, the organizations trained volunteers to conduct kayak based surveys for locating Spartina, using an established protocol.

Water Quality Monitoring Project: May 2006-2010

The goal of this water quality monitoring project was to collect fecal coliform bacteria data and loading estimates at priority freshwater inputs around the southern shore of Drayton Harbor, Birch Bay, eastern side of Lummi Island, and at Chuckanut Bay in order to augment data collected by other programs. This report describes the procedures used to collect water quality data and presents a review of data collected from May 2006 through May 2010.
