Kelp Plan 2020-2023 Status Update
This status update summarizes progress made since the initial publication of the Kelp Plan and provides recommended needs and next steps to continue our collective progress towards accomplishing the Kelp Plan goals and actions. Part of charting a path forward includes understanding the work that has happened to date and how it has contributed to carrying out individual actions in the Kelp Plan. The process of information gathering, and reflection included the development of an inventory of kelp projects in Puget Sound and convening a workshop to generate a shared understanding of Kelp Plan status, lessons learned, and next steps.

Skagit MRC Pinto Abalone 2022 Final Report
The pinto (northern) abalone, Haliotis kamtschatkana, is the primary abalone species indigenous to Washington waters, but populations are severely depleted and considered functionally extinct. The current number and distribution of reproductive wild abalone is too low and too widely distributed to maintain a sustainable population. Steps are being taken to help restore the pinto abalone population in northern Puget Sound waters, including Skagit County through this project of the MRC.

Port Susan Marine Stewardship Area Conservation Action Plan Update Recommendations Report
Port Susan Marine Stewardship Area (MSA) Conservation Action Plan (CAP) was first developed in 2012 by a collaborative group of partners representing federal, state, tribal, and local governments and non-profit organizations with a goal of achieving a healthy marine and estuarine ecosystem in Port Susan with thriving biodiversity and strong recreational and resource based industries. Ten years after the CAP was initially developed, the Snohomish County Marine Resources Committee (MRC), in partnership with the Island County MRC, reconvened partners to assess the current status of the CAP and identify ways in which to make the plan more useful and effective for the next decade and beyond.

Comprehensive Review of the 2012 Port Susan Marine Stewardship Area Conservation Action Plan
The Port Susan Marine Stewardship Area (MSA) comprises diverse marine and estuarine ecosystems and has been identified as a high priority conservation area in the Puget Sound. In 2012, the Island County and Snohomish County MRCs collaborated with community partners to create a Conservation Action Plan (CAP) aimed at conserving and restoring Port Susan Bay to achieve thriving biodiversity and to support strong recreational and resource-based industries. As 10 years have passed since the initial development of the CAP, Island and Snohomish MRCs are working collaboratively to re-engage community partners. In 2022 a research team from Evans School of Public Policy and Governance Student Consulting Lab conducted a comprehensive review of the 2012 CAP.
